The bid from 911 Inc. for a $121,469.78 to upgrade Texas County's/City of Guymon's 911 system was denied by the E911 Board by a 6-3 vote.
"One of my concerns is because of the equipment, I want to make sure that we have exhausted all of the resources in looking for other bids. I am required in my office to take as many bids as possible," Ted Keeling, County Commissioner said.
"If we were to extract the entire system there are other companies out there. But this is the only place that we can upgrade the system that we have now including the alley that we have just recently purchased," Eddie Adamson, Guymon Police Chief said.
"The system we have is operating pretty good right now and we have this money that is starting to come in on the cell phone deal and the commitment that we made to serve to county and the city is to put the best system in place. So if it takes waiting till we can add to this to do it right and get a little extra research. I know all you have been working hard on this and I appreciate it cause this board is here to work together and to make this agreeable," Keeling said.
Adamson voiced his concern that he believed this system was the best way to go and he that the time is now to move forward.
"What we need is to resolve what we want to do today which is accept the bid or look at a total new complete system and that's where we need to be leary. This is a huge expense and if we are looking at changing the whole thing if we step outside of 911 Inc.," Ted Graham, City Manager said.
When the bid was out to a vote the board decided to not take the bid and do some more research to make sure that the upgrade will meet all the needs and requirements for a 911 system.
