Guymon snow storm photos

GPD Press Release, January 29th, 2010

Here are a few pictures from here in Guymon, One is of the parking lot at the Police Department and one is a big truck stuck on one of the streets and the other is of a house in a residential neighborhood.

We have 5-8 inches of snow everywhere but the emergency management director, Harold Tyson, reported over 12 inches at some places inside the city limits.

The roads got a thin coat of ice on them last night when temps fell below freezing and the snow on top of it has made things very slick. On streets that had not been completely cleared of the snow from last week, the packed snow got some thin ice and then more snow on top which is making them hazardous to say the least.

The City of Guymon has closed city offices for the day with the exception of essential personnel but Texas County Offices are open. Guymon Schools are closed but Goodwell schools are opening one hour later.  We have no information on the other schools in the area at this time.

Motorists are urged to stay off the roadway unless absolutely necessary for travel and then drivers should be extremely careful as accidents are starting to occur as well as vehicles being stuck on streets due to the snow and ice.

Additionally, Guymon Police are asking citizens to not be out on streets on four wheelers or ATV's due to the danger of accidents with cars as well as the dangerous manner in which some drivers of four wheelers were driving during the last bout of winter weather.

Tune to local media outlets for more information and weather updates.
